What are Supercomputers Used for?

From the essential and simple desktop to the ultra-sleek portable laptop and designated server machines, there are different types of computing machines used in various roles. Indeed the evolution of computers shows how a once complex and huge machine became a machine for the masses, a necessary part of every household and office. The earlier impression or idea of computers in people's minds was a very very smart, capable of doing anything machine, that could churn out data and information in minutes. But such "super" computers are not urban legends. They do exist and are in fact, called supercomputers.

So what are supercomputers? They work on the principle of faster and more work done in minimum time. Supercomputers are capable of performing operations in minutes and seconds, that would take a team of even high-end machines, days or weeks or more realistically months to perform. They are also super in terms of maintenance and need large rooms all to themselves, along with extremely cool temperature surroundings.

Why fixing a computer is better than getting a brand new pc

Written By technology factory on Friday, 18 November 2011 | 11:46

More flexibility: This one is a little more difficult to explain. Say you’ve decided to take your computer in to a repair shop. You want to repair a part of your computer that has gone haywire – say, the screen. You go into the shop to get it repaired, right?
It’s economically convenient. As was pointed out above, these are recessive times. as such, everyone is strapped for money. Also, prices are, unfortunately, going up. And they don’t seem to show any signs of going back down. Therefore, you need to space out your funds with a good deal of foresight. And, in order to space out a financial plan, you need to have finances to work with. So it’s an excellent idea to repair your stuff.

Wireless Modem for Desktop

Written By technology factory on Thursday, 17 November 2011 | 01:52

Wireless modem is a device that enables a user to access Internet when connected to a System. The Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides Internet access to the user through a modem. Wireless modems are preferred because of the portability and usability at distances. Wireless modems are helpful when more than one computer is used. The network is more compatible as physical cables and intricate mess of wires are avoided in wireless modems.

The basis of wireless communication is the access point which enables the user to connect to a network through the desktop or other devices. Access point is basically a transceiver that sends and receives data through wireless devices. It is the point till which the modem or the router can be used. The modems can be assorted according to the range they cover, data rate, modulation factors such as Amplitude modulation, Frequency modulation, Phase modulation etc., GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data) are Internet Connections that we come across in our day-to-day life. GPRS is a wireless connection that has data rates from 56 Kbps up to 114 Kbps. It provides Internet connection for mobile as well as computer users. CDMA is circuit based connection and uses dial up connection for Internet browsing.

Why are Keyboard Keys not in Alphabetical Order?

If you have been using a computer for quite sometime now, then you must be aware of the fact that the layout of the computer keyboard that you use to type words, is not in accordance with the order of the letters in the English alphabet. Just have a look at the keyboard of the desktop or laptop you're using right now. It is difficult to find a logic behind such a haphazard arrangement of letters, isn't it? Fancy the letters not finding their "deserved" positions on the keyboard! Consider the alphabet 'A', for example. Should it not ideally be the starting key of the first row? But alas, it was not to be. The "poor" letter is seen nowhere in the first row but can only be found in the second! Similar is the case of the letter 'W', which has been moved up to the first row. This arrangement of letters is termed as the 'QWERTY' arrangement after the first 6 letters of the keyboard. So, what is the reason behind this arrangement and is there a reason, in the first place? Let's look for answers in the subsequent section.

Reason Why Keyboard Keys are not in Alphabetical Order

To understand the logic behind the present arrangement of letters on the keyboard, the QWERTY arrangement, we have to go back (albeit for a while!) to the later part of the 19th century, when typewriters were the norm and the invention of the computer was almost half a century away.

Types of Network Hardware

A computer network is not made up of one machine or even one type of machine. It is a carefully designed system of different hardware components (networking devices) working in tandem with various rules and communication protocols. From the network scenario in a household, to a medium scale network in a school or mall to a large, border-crossing network of a corporation or service, a computer network is made up of various hardware parts, some standard and some rare and more complex. So, what are the different types of network hardware? Read on for a listing of such devices and a brief explanation of each.

Types of Network Hardware

Cables & Wires
Everything may be turning wireless nowadays but at least 2-3 wired connections have to exist somewhere in a computer network.
